HEADSTART MUSIC BARBADOS
“Investing in our future through the arts”
To equip class 3 & 4 students (8-11 yrs) with the necessary skills needed to perform confidently and proficiently on band instruments when entering secondary/middle school.
Headstart Music will provide free beginner group lessons to 8-11 year olds on saxophone, flute, clarinet, trumpet and percussion.
It’s a proven fact that students who play an instrument also excel in academics. Every child should have an opportunity to learn an instrument, and at little to no cost.
ABOUT HEADSTART MUSIC BARBADOS …..
Headstart Music Barbados was created by Barbadian-born musician Elan Trotman in 2016. Trotman is currently a touring jazz musician and recording artist, but also has over 10 years of teaching experience under his belt, having received a Bachelors Degree in Music Education at the Berklee College of Music.
“This type of program is very common in many public school systems, and it’s main purpose is to give elementary/primary school students a ‘headstart’ in band instruments, enabling middle/secondary school band programs to directly benefit from those students’ early instruction. With 1-2 years of playing experience for our 8-11 year olds, the musicianship in middle/secondary school band programs is guaranteed to see significant growth and development, allowing students the option to further music studies at a high school and college level.”
